Lisa Vogt, McCarthy Tétrault LLP

Last but certainly not least, we are proud to introduce our final panelist for our BWT Vancouver Annual Marquee Event 2016, Lisa Vogt from McCarthy Tétrault LLP!

Lisa Vogt, Q.C. is a partner in the national business law firm of McCarthy Tétrault LLP.

She has held a series of leadership roles at her firm, consistently promoting diversity and inclusiveness for women. She is presently the Chief Diversity and Engagement Officer. She served as Regional Managing Partner, British Columbia from 2004 to March 2010, and as National Practice Group Leader of the Real Property and Planning Group.

Ms. Vogt appears in the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of real estate law and in the 2015 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada, as a leading lawyer in the area of property development.

Ms. Vogt is a strong advocate for women and families, and in particular, women in the legal profession. She was recognized as a Canadian Diversity Champion in the 2012 Women of Influence magazine, received the University of British Columbia Law Alumni Association’s 2011 Award of Distinction and was named as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network in 2010. In 2010, she was also recognized by the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) for her leadership, passion and dedication to advancing women in the legal profession. She was a member of the BC Law Society’s Task Force on the Retention of Women in Law which tabled its business case in 2009, and currently co-chairs Phase 1 of the BC Law Society’s Justicia Project. She has served as a long term board member with the Vancouver Children’s Festival and the YWCA (Vancouver), and is currently a board member and co vice-chair of the Minerva Foundation for BC Women.

As Chair of her firm’s National Diversity Committee (NDC) since 2009, Ms. Vogt helps to advance women lawyers and to foster a professional environment that attracts women and sustains and supports their career development. The NDC promotes gender diversity through monitoring equal opportunities to work on career advancing files and creating mentoring and leadership programs, parental and leave policies, flexible work arrangement policies, and business development initiatives focused on women clients and lawyers. Ms. Vogt has gained leadership support for these important and highly regarded programs. Her inclusive approach has elevated the level of discourse on these sensitive issues, greatly helping the firm to develop leading policies.

Ms. Vogt frequently speaks both within and outside the firm on advancing women in law. She never fails to impress and inspire young women with candid talks on being a committed parent and a very successful lawyer. As a mentor and leader, she has fostered change and opened doors for women lawyers in her firm and in the profession as a whole. She has shown by example that women can achieve partnership and managing partner status in a national law firm while managing a busy home life. Her own prestigious career, combined with being a mother of five children, is a testament to finding workable solutions to the work-life conundrum that most professional women face.
